You’re the expert. Let’s make sure that you appear like it.

Do this

  • Plan your podcast. Showing up to the studio and planning on “winging it” never works out well. Have some main bullet points that you want to talk about and make sure that you leave yourself time to hit them all. That leads to our next point…

  • Try to keep it to less than 30 minutes. Research shows that podcasts are getting shorter to fit better with commutes and workouts

  • Set a consistent release schedule. People will like to know when the next episode is coming out. Be consistent about it.

  • Distribute your podcast everywhere! We can help with that as there’s a few sites that will help. We also work with some great partners that can make sure that your video podcast gets the proper push.

  • Repurpose your content for other things. Cut a clip out and put it to wherever you think your customers will see it. If you need help with social clips, we can do that also!

  • Take the time to measure your success! Look at the metrics. See what works and what doesn’t.

  • Listen to your audience. If you ask for comments, your audience will tell you what they want to hear. Give it to them!

  • Keep in mind the image you want to convey through your appearance. Stay with “normal” colors and keep stripes to a minimum.

  • Relax! Have fun! Be yourself! Your audience will like you. You. Not some weird, stiff persona. Be you!

DOn’t do this

  • Don’t sell to people. No one wants to listen to a 30 minute sales pitch. Instead, be the expert that they come to rely on. That will turn into sales for you on it’s own.

  • Make sure that you don’t ramble. Some friendly small talk is fine to show your audience that you’ve got a personable side. Make sure that you pretty quickly dive into your bullet points so you can be personable, but taken seriously.

  • Swearing just doesn’t work. Sure, you may do it in conversation, but quickly erodes your status as an expert if you pepper it throughout your podcast.

  • “um” and “ah” just don’t work. Silence is better. Pause. That gives us an option of leaving the pause in, or cutting it out to trim things up. Take your time. It isn’t a race.

  • Don’t wear the following items:

    • Busy patterns or bright colors - These can be distracting and stripes show up poorly on camera

    • Reflective or shiny fabrics - These can cause glare and negatively impact the quality of the video.

    • Shirts with logos or branding other than your own.

  • We want you to look at the analytics, but not obsess over them. It’s not just about the viewership. It’s about building community and building content across a wide array of tools.
